(ELEGENT / CASUAL / ROMANTIC THINGS TO DO AFTER)
A beautiful, elegant and memorable place to have breakfast. You can dine outside on the patio or inside - Both have stunning views of the ocean and amazing garden paradise which the Grand Wailea is known for. Daily they offer both an a la cart menu as well as a breakfast buffet. A Special Sunday Champagne Brunch menu is also available for family and friends to enjoy with live Hawaiian music and hula. After breakfast you can walk the gardens and stroll along the beautiful beachside path that connects the hotels.

Cafe Des Amis Paia (Northshore)
(CHARMING / LOCAL / GREAT TOWN TO CHECK OUT THINGS TO DO AFTER)
A casual, local spot in the quaint town of Paia. It’s a perfect place to stop along the road to Hana for breakfast. I think it has one of the most charming outdoor courtyards that make this place a gem. Amazing crepes, great coffee a perfect place to relax and take in the island lifestyle. After you could explore the shops of the charming and artsy town of Paia. I like it for dinner as well because the candlelit patio is really romantic.

Four Seasons Hotel
Offers a great breakfast buffet where every breakfast feels like its own vacation on Maui. The brekfast offerings are unending with omelets made to order, stuffed and overflowing if that’s the way you like them, or neatly folded and dainty if you’re a minimalist. Any benedict they offer will feature a lovely Hollandaise sauce. Make sure you have something handy to soak up the yolk/sauce, and yes, they have Tabasco or similar, just ask your server. Pastries?... Too many to name, and rotating every day. The Four Seasons has several excellent pastry chefs, and they seem to really like being up early making all sorts of strudels, muffins, and scones. House-smoked salmon on a (toasted) bagel half with cream cheese. (Sorry, bagels on Maui still aren’t great. Best to toast and keep your expectation low.) Pancakes, which can be generously studded with berries or chocolate chips or other wonderful things. Three kine syrup. Yes, you can get yours in the shape of Mickey Mouse, or Minnie even, if you like bows in your pancake’s hair. Waffles, particularly those featuring an avalanche of toasty macadamia nuts. Fresh white powder donuts. These are usually on the kid’s table. Don’t worry, you can sneak one or two, and no one will mind.

Farmacy Health Bar Wailuku (Central Maui)
(VERY LOCAL / GREAT TOWN TO CHECK OUT / VEGAN / HEALTHY)
If you want to eat super healthy and refreshing and eat like a true local check this off the beaten path gem out. It’s one of the newest and greatest little known spots but has already been voted one of Maui’s best vegan restaurants. Located on Main St. in town that time forgot about; Wailuku. Heading into Wailuku will feel like going back into time and you’ll see how the original Maui looked. Very charming “cowboy town” looking buildings and store fronts line this town’s streets and makes it a great place to see. I always feel like I should be tying up my horse on one of the porch beams that wrap many of the store fronts in this town instead of parking my car and feeding the parking meter. At Farmacy all the ingredients are organic, GMO free and sourced locally from farms on the Hawaiian Islands. Healthy smoothies, fresh juices (like the Tamarindo), Maui Coconut Water are all great grab-and-go items that make this spot a perfect stopping place to fuel up before your drive around the North Side of the island. The Acai Bowl selections are amazing as well as the Pono Bowl.

Sarento’s On The Beach Kihei (South-West Maui)
(GREAT VIEW OF THE BEACH / BRUNCH TOO)
A lot of Maui restaurants look out at the beach, but Sarento’s is one of the only places with tables right next to the sand. Great breakfast and brunch. If your going for dinner, I think you should try to arrive well before sunset and get a table right on Keawakapu Beach.

Mana Kai Maui Resort
One of the best waterfront locations on the island. Anchoring the north end of Keawakapu Beach, the view stretches out the Wailea coast, over the water to little crescent shaped Molokini, and beyond to the majestic red mound of Kaho’olawe. Stunning.
Outdoor seating on the lanai is your best bet, and the best bet for food is breakfast. The garden Benedict — spinach and sun dried tomatoes — is a good choice. So is the banana foster pancakes (rum’s in that pineapple sauce), and we also like their egg breakfasts. Lunches, which are served along with the breakfast menu from morning to Happy Hour in the afternoon, consist of large sandwiches with well-prepared steak fries. The burger is good (order it a little rarer than you normally would). So is the spinach salad with blue cheese and bacon. Half-priced appetizers — sushi, ribs — and drink specials during Happy Hour, but we usually skip dinner, which doesn’t measure up to other meals. Service is halfhearted, but the view makes up for most of it during daylight hours. After dark, however, there is nothing to look at but the plate. One last thing about the view: during the winter months (peaking in January and February) Humpback whales come to calve just offshore here. Umm, like, right in front of you. Stupefying marine life shows are nearly guaranteed: the enormous animals leap out of the air, slap their tails, and blow off steam. Mama whales patiently teach their youngsters all the acrobatic tricks, demonstrating again and again exactly how to slap the water to achieve maximum effect. Grab a curbside seat for breakfast, order coffee or a mimosa, and keep your eyes trained on the horizon.

During whale season (roughly November – March) this is one of the best places to dine and watch the humpback whales along West Maui’s shoreline. The Macadamia Nut or Lilikoi (passionfruit) Goat Cheese Pancakes and Seared Ahi Benedict are amoung the house favorites. Mama’s Fish House
(MAMA’S)
“Mama’s” is synonymous with Maui fine dining. I think it's a good idea to arrive before sunset to stroll the adjacent palm grove and hidden, sandy cove; then settle in for some exceptionally fresh fish in a romantic beachfront atmosphere about 1.5 miles past Paia on the Road to Hana. FYI GPS devices will probably direct you to their service entrance, so look for a big fishing boat at the entrance to their parking lot.

Located on the point between the beautiful Kapalua and Napili Bay, Merriman’s offers beautiful panoramic ocean views. I think a great thing to do is arrive well before sunset and order a bottle of wine by the oceanfront fire pit, relax and watch the sun go down. After “the show”, head to your table for dinner. Take it nice and slow. Remember you’re on island time now. It’s a farm-to-table concept restaurant sourcing most of their ingredients directly from the island. The opulent restaurant offers indoor-outdoor seating, spectacular sunset views, a modern open-air bar, and oceanfront lounge and fire pit.

Paia Fish Market
(PAIA / KIHEI)
Don't be daunted by the long line of locals and tourists alike lined up all the way to the door waiting to order at the counter or by the communal tables packed with diners... Somehow, (magically), the line will move and seats will open up for you when your number is called. Call it Maui magic! This is a good casual place for a fish burger. The incredibly large menu is all chalked out on big blackboards, and consists of seafood dishes and fish burgers and more. I suggest keeping to their best items, the fish filets and fish burgers all priced unbelievably low. I don't even think it's possible to purchase filets of the size at the grocery store for a better price. The Ono and Opah are top choices.

This local favorite is where you’ll find an influx of visitors and Maui residents alike, eating and drinking on the patio. The pita sandwiches are ginormous.

Tasaka Guri Guri Shop
(In the Maui Mall near Whole Foods)
Tasaka Guri-Guri is a small, family-owned shop specializing in a frozen dessert known as guri-guri. Guri-guri is a cross between sherbet and ice cream. It is typical made with a mixture of flavored juices, guava juice, and condensed milk. Rumor has it that lemon-lime soda may also be involved. However, Tasaka Guri-Guri is very protective of the recipe and has managed to keep it a family secret for decades.

Julia's Banana Bread
If you and your traveling partner has nerves of steel, you should drive around the West Maui Mountains from Kapalua to Wailuku. The views are unbeatable, the land wild and rugged, and the trade winds blowing in from the west make the air on this side crystal clear. When you hit Kahakuloa (Kah hah koo LOH ah), the teensy fishing village, look for the green roadside stand. If it’s before 2pm, Julia may still have some bread for you. Made with local bananas, it’s succulent, moist, and sweet. Is it the best in the world, as the signs proclaim? Not necessarily … but it’s delicious in its context, and if you’re driving out this way, you should get a loaf or two. The coconut candy is also very good. If you don’t want to drive out to Kahakuloa, you can order the bread from her website (so this century) or you can try Julia’s bread at Flatbread in Paia. They heat it in their fiery, wood-burning furnace and top it with chocolate sauce and macadamia nut ice cream as a dessert.
